Ready-made thermoplastic kits are now available to buy in the form of strips and smaller sheets. This plastic kit has been modified to work optimally with the NRX® Heat Tape products, using an iron.  The plastic helps reinforce an NRX® application, but can also individually reinforce an existing orthosis. 

Cut the thermoplastic where you want the reinforcement to sit. Choose which Heat Tape you want to use (NRX® Heat Tape, without Velcro surface EU490001) or (NRX® Loop Heat Tape, with Velcro surface EU490090). Make sure the heat tape covers the thermoplastic part by at least 3 mm. Apply the thermoplastic part to the inside of the heat tape and place them on the strap or orthosis. Cover everything with baking paper. Apply the iron (medium heat) over the lamination and wait 10-15 seconds. When the thermoplastic is soft, it is ready for application.  Apply to the patient and allow the reinforcement to cool until it is stable.
